The Ministry of Digital Transformation has opened its eighth ICT Access Centre at Lisas Gardens, Couva on Tuesday June 28, 2022. The Centre, with a fully furnished and Training Room, is located inside the newly-built Lisas Gardens Community Centre, which was officially opened on Tuesday by the Minister of Sport and Community Development, the Honourable Shamfa Cudjoe, alongside the Minister of Digital Transformation, Senator the Honourable Hassel Bacchus.
The Access Centre’s cyber café has ten (10) stations, equipped with desktop computers, headsets, webcams and internet access. The Training Room, which can be used for virtual training, seminars or meetings in the community, will be outfitted with laptop computers and a printer.
The Lisas Gardens Welfare Village Council warmly embraced the opening of the Access Centre, noting that on average 62% of households in the area have a computer. The AccessTT initiative is part of the Ministry of Digital Transformation’s Digital Society thrust, seeking to ensure ICT access and increased capacity and capability among all citizens, especially for the digitally underserved.
This thrust has been greatly supported by a partnership with the Ministry of Sport and Community Development, which will see several ICT Access Centres opened over the course of this year in newly renovated or completed Community Centres. The Belmont ICT Access Centres was opened on May 27, 2022, and in the months to come, Maraval, Tacarigua, Cascade and Caiman (St Joseph) will also receive the special combination of Community Centres plus ICT Access Centres.
The Lisas Gardens Centre is located at Lisas Gardens Boulevard, Couva, and will be open from Monday to Friday between from 10:00am to 6:00 pm.
