Minister Bacchus Meets With UN and New Zealand to Advance Digital Initiatives

Ms. Joanna Kazana, the United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator, and Her Excellency Linda Charlotte Te Puni, High Commissioner-designate for New Zealand, engaged in substantive discussions on digital transformation and its impact on socio-economic development.

During the visit, Minister Bacchus and Ms. Kazana delved into pivotal initiatives spearheaded by the Ministry of Digital Transformation (MDT), including leading projects such as WeLearnTT, TTWiFi, AccessTT, and the Developer’s Hub. Ms. Kazana expressed keen interest in forthcoming endeavours such as e-identification and interoperability systems, highlighting their potential to streamline data exchange across platforms. Minister Bacchus underscored the principle of ‘Inclusion by Design’, ensuring equitable access to digital services for all citizens, irrespective of disabilities. Additionally, discussions encompassed the role of the UN in supporting Trinidad and Tobago’s digital transformation journey, emphasizing the significance of fostering international collaborations for sustainable progress.

In a separate meeting, Minister Bacchus and Her Excellency Linda Charlotte Te Puni exchanged insights on New Zealand’s advanced digital infrastructure and its global contributions to the Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector. The dialogue showcased New Zealand’s collaborative efforts with nations such as Lithuania, Estonia, and India, highlighting the pivotal role of international partnerships in driving digital innovation on a global scale.

Looking ahead, the Ministry remains committed to fostering synergistic collaborations and facilitating knowledge-sharing opportunities with international counterparts to propel Trinidad and Tobago towards a digitally empowered future.
