In an inspiring “Passing of the Torch Ceremony,” Celeste Pereira, alongside her colleagues Adeeta Ragbir and Yasameen Mohammed, has been named Youth Envoys for the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). This event marked the transition from the previous Generation Connect envoys to the new cohort. Celeste shared her excitement about this opportunity, highlighting the multitude of opportunities that come with being a Youth Envoy. She emphasized the importance of skill acquisition in today’s digital society, “It provides an avenue to learn new skills, a crucial aspect in the rapidly evolving digital landscape. I look forward to enhancing my technical and digital literacy through Generation Connect, ensuring that I remain at the forefront of industry trends.”
Generation Connect is a significant initiative under the ITU Youth Strategy, aimed at engaging global youth in the journey towards a digital globe. This initiative empowers young people, encouraging them to participate as equal partners with current leaders, and equipping them with the skills and opportunities to advance their vision of a connected future.
Moreover, she is motivated by the opportunity to bring back the knowledge and insights gained from Generation Connect to benefit Trinidad and Tobago. “I aim to empower other young people in Trinidad and Tobago to actively engage in Digital Transformation, innovation, and sustainable development. This initiative serves as a means for me to translate global knowledge into tangible, meaningful contributions at the national level.”
