The Ministry of Digital Transformation had an incredible time at the Youth Tech Initiative on Friday, May 26, 2023. The ground-breaking event organized by the Office of the Prime Minister’s Gender and Child Affairs division aimed to empower T&T’s youth to practice online safety and foster more inclusive digital spaces.

As part of the Youth Tech Initiative, the MDT had the opportunity to host an information booth with valuable knowledge about how the Ministry supports citizens in their journey towards a digital future. This support includes accessing the internet and multimedia devices through our ICT Access Centres, fostering digital skills through WeLearnTT, and empowering local software developers through D’Hub!

Dr. Andrea Kanneh, Manager of Performance and Engagement, expressed the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to creating a safer digital environment through a multifaceted approach. Strategies include enacting laws and making regulations, implementing robust cybersecurity measures, conducting sensitization campaigns, raising awareness, and facilitating digital skills development programs. By tackling these crucial aspects, the MDT aims to make a positive and lasting impact in combating gender-based violence online.

The Ministry commends the Gender and Child Affairs Division for organizing this vital event and promoting responsible digital citizenship where all individuals, regardless of gender or age, can thrive and navigate the digital world confidently. Our participation in the Youth Tech Initiative underlined the Ministry’s unwavering dedication to the digital well-being of Trinidad and Tobago’s citizens.
